Thirsty Thursday on Thursday, May 26, 2011

Welcome summer! It was a hot one today. Between the zoo with pal, Gabe, playdate with Tyler and YaYa at the park, and then soccer practice, I was outside the entire day except for a quick nap. This meant lots of fun and sun, a bit of sweat, many swigs from my water bottle, and a good night's sleep!

It Is Official on Tuesday, May 24, 2011

It is official. Our home has been overrun by cars and trucks! It is my most favorite thing to do these days - sit, lie down, sleep, bathe, eat, and play with cars.

Empty Nest on Monday, May 23, 2011

We think, we hope, our baby bird flew the nest. After my nap this afternoon, upon checking the nest, we noticed that the baby bird, who was getting quite big, was gone. Fly free, little bird! We were happy to share our home.

Rigs, Roasting, and Relaxing on Monday, May 23, 2011

So, what do big rigs, roasting marshmallows, and relaxing poolside have in common? They were just some of my weekend activities, which included Arlington's Petting Zoo of trucks, a one-night camping trip out to Haymarket, and then our inaugural trip to the pool. Great weather, fantastic company, tastes of summertime and all the fun to come!

Between the Raindrops on Monday, May 16, 2011

Between showers and through misty rain, we crammed a lot in our weekend. It has left us scratching our heads this morning, "It is Monday already?" Not only was it a busy and fun weekend, but it was also spent in the wonderful company of Moppy and Pop. The highlight was a trip to Krispy Kreme and Huntley Meadows Park, an amazing nature reserve, where we saw fresh donuts, a glaze waterfall, (that was at KK, of course) and then frogs, snails, tadpoles, ducks, turtles, egrets, and even a snake to name a few. And, we heard lots of wonderful sounds, including hissing geese, croaking bullfrogs, and calling birds. Back at home, I learned to make the sound of the bullfrog by plucking a guitar string. Cool!

Then There Was One on Friday, May 13, 2011

We are sad to report that there is only one baby robin left in the nest. We are not sure what happened to the others. We think they were all there yesterday afternoon, but can not be certain with the little bare bodies huddled together. However, it is clear that there is only one hungry baby this morning. We can hope the other babies found a bigger, safer nest. Though, mama and daddy robin are always nearby keeping close watch, squawking at all other birds (and people) and even chasing away a chipmunk who was just minding his own business in the front yard.
In the meantime, at breakfast this morning, I wanted to switch out my booster seat and chair for my new camp chair. We have a camping trip planned for next weekend, and I am getting very excited. I even use my compass around the house to point me in the right direction. I told my mom to go South out the kitchen!

Baby Bird update on Tuesday, May 10, 2011

An update on our front door robins: two babies have hatched so far. We wouldn't say that they are the cutest little creatures... Did you know baby robins eat about 35 to 40 meals a day; that keeps their parents very busy!

Moms and More on Sunday, May 8, 2011

Happy Mother's Day. It has been a weekend full of fun and hard work. It is hard work making breakfast in bed for Mommy and being a good, helpful boy all day!

Yesterday, we visited my cousins on the cove to share in some Mother's Day celebrating. Below you will see yet another fantastic mom and grandmother with four of her seven grandchildren. It was a beautiful day to be outside but also inside Jack's cool bedroom, checking out his toys and just hanging out, enjoying time together.
Today, we spent most of the morning putting together Mommy's new raised garden bed. Then, we planted tomatoes, peppers, squash, pumpkins, and cucumbers. Below you see us in front of our new garden after we cleaned ourselves up. I think this was my fifth outfit of the day--I had the most fun getting dirty, wet, then clean to only get dirty, wet and clean again and again. But, I was a good helper, too, putting the garden together, handing Daddy tools, and watering plants.
We topped the day off with dinner at Lyon Hall, a new French bistro/brasserie type of place. Luckily for me--fries are French! Then, homemade ice cream for dessert--yum! and after a wonderful meal Mommy treated herself to a lemon tart with raspberry sorbet, finishing with Daddy's help.

Wonderful Week on Friday, May 6, 2011

It has been a great week--lots of outside time, soaking in the sights, sounds, and tastes of springtime! Today we enjoyed a playgroup outing to Meadowlark Gardens. My first question, as we pulled up, regarded the location of the playground, which there was not one. But, I quickly realized that was quite okay. Instead, there were large grassy fields and hills to run, ponds to discover, and secret hiding places amongst rows to weeping trees. It was a great morning, which also included a picnic and lots of giggles amongst friends as we made up words and shouted them loudly to each other. This week, we also enjoyed watching our own personal mother robin, who has made her nest right outside our front door in a flowering pots. According to our research, we should have little baby birds in a week! Also, this week, I visited the doctor for my three-year check up. All is working well, and I weigh 37 pounds exactly and measure 38.5 inches. The shots I received were not much fun, especially now that I better understand what is going on. And, this particular nurse got me good! But, I was brave though sore. I also had my three year photo taken; you can see me practicing my smile below :)
